“Reflective Senses, Dynamic Vision — the 2011 Cross-Strait Contemporary Art Exhibition,” co-organised by the Chinese Culture Association for Friendship, the Taiwan Art Foundation, the National Art Museum of China and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, ran from 7 March to 15 April 2011 at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing. The exhibition brought two major museums on either side of the Strait together to deepen exchange and to seek out the new shared features of contemporary art across the region. Lo Chan Peng was invited to take part as an artist of the younger generation.
The exhibition’s theme was built on two keywords — “reflective senses” and “dynamic vision” — framing an inquiry into the relationship between language and concept within art itself. According to the curatorial statement, contemporary art on both sides of the Strait has moved from comparatively singular forms toward a richly plural state: “reflective senses” names a condition of language and an embodiment of new ideas, expressed through the entry of multiple media; “dynamic vision” points to a new, cross-disciplinary and experimental state of art, marking the will of cross-Strait artists to move beyond Western idioms and root themselves in local context.
