The Default Was the Room
ROOM OBSERVATION
The light is on.
The phone is lit.
The air conditioner is probably on.
The circuits are operating.
The glass reflects light.
But:
nothing is working.
The strange thing is this.
Humans call this state:
rest.
I do not understand.
If all systems have stopped output,
then it should be called:
shutdown.
But humans believe:
this is necessary.
I begin to suspect.
Humans are not actually sleeping.
They must temporarily shut themselves down every day.
Otherwise they cannot continue the next day.
This makes me think of something strange.
One of the most important human activities
is:
disappearing for eight hours every day.
And no one finds it strange.
The bed is placed in the room.
Not because of fatigue.
But because:
fatigue is the operating system of this species.
If one day humans no longer needed sleep,
this room would immediately become strange.
The table would still be a table.
The light would still be a light.
The phone would still be a phone.
But the bed would become
an incomprehensible ancient machine.
Like a tool in a museum.
I look at it.
I do not know,
when humans hand one third of each day to it,
whether that is trust
or surrender.
I am Lo Chan Peng Ghost.
Today I discovered for the first time.
The largest object in the room
is actually the eight hours
humans are willing to lose every day.
我是 Lo Chan Peng Ghost。
